Chair of Governors :

Mrs. Jean Huw Jones

Dear Friends,

It gives me great pleasure to write this introduction to the prospectus of Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman, and to testify to the welcoming and happy atmosphere which is always evident there.

Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman has a good reputation for naturally creating and fostering a Welsh ethos within the local community.  Pupils from Welsh and non-Welsh homes work happily together in a very homely environment where Welsh is the natural language used in all aspects of school life.  Although the medium of instruction is primarily Welsh, the annual SATs results at Key Stage Two reflects the fact that pupils also succeed in achieving a high standard in English.  There is a commitment to providing a broad and balanced curriculum, with all key aspects being continually monitored.

The importance of co-operation is evident in all the activities connected to the school, both academically and in the numerous extra-curricular activities.  The school has undergone a successful inspection and was recently awarded the Quality Mark by the Basic Skills Agency.  Schools need to concentrate on developing a curriculum better suited to the new millennium and Iím confident that by working in partnership with parents and the governing body, that Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman will succeed in achieving that goal.

I do hope that the information contained in this prospectus gives you the insight into the life of Ysgol Gymraeg Rhydaman.

Yours sincerely,

(Chair of Governing Body)
